Reality TV Shows In Europe Are Very NSFW And Allow Way More Than American TV

In the U.S. reality TV shows have been the latest rage for a really long time. We have everything from dating shows, game shows, and shows that really just test your durability as human being. As the audience gawks in shock and surprise every week, we can’t take our eyes off to see who gets the rose or doesn’t.

But why? Why do we watch these sh*t shows unfold? What do we get out of being the fly on the wall on these ridiculous shows? Gary Oldman once said:

“They never let you down. Reality TV to me is the museum of social decay.”

What is really wild is that sometimes celebrities even partake in these shows and therefore making some really bizarre television. Throw in getting naked to the mix and you’ve got yourself a solid pilot. Those ratings are what reality TV show producers crave, and apparently the millions watching crave one thing- sex.

Drama and sex sell HIGH on TV in any country. These shows are complete and total proof of that.

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!

This show originated in the U.K. but it has since grown wings and spread to a ton of other different countries. We saw a bit of it in the U.S. but it did not last more than two seasons. We get a lot of our reality TV show ideas from the U.K. actually… Jersey Shore was inspired by Geordie Shore and other hits like Big Brother for example did really well in the U.S. but I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here definitely thrived a lot more in Europe.

Germany has it’s own version of it, Ich Bin Ein Star – Holt Mich Hier Raus, but they added a little twist to it to make it their own. If you don’t know how this show works let me BRIEFLY explain to it to you.

Basically, the network picks a random group of celebrities (mostly ones out of work) and puts them in survival mode. They have to live and survive in this jungle like setting for a total of 3 weeks. They are stripped from every luxury in life they are used to, including showering. So what they have to do is make use of their surroundings, and to shower there is a convenient little waterfall that has worked well throughout the show’s running seasons.

So German contestants this season include, former Playboy model Sarah Joelle Jahnel, actress Nicole Mieth and TV personality Gina-Lisa Lohfink. They couldn’t wait to get under that waterfall and the footage might have been too hot for TV.

The waterfall is a staple of the show ever since in the U.K. version circa 2006, when British pop singer Myleene Klass gave the show the highest ratings it had ever seen. Now it’s kind of like tradition, but the German’s seem to have turned things up a notch.

Not just in the nakedness of it all but also in the eating competitions. Per Buzzfeed, we the eating trials are much tougher, they’re forced to eat double the amount of creepy crawlies and animals’ private parts. YUCK.

Game2: Winter

Ok this show really just takes it way too far with the antics. It is a very similar plot to the franchise The Hunger Games except ‘rape and murder are allowed’.

Yeah. I know.

How is that legal? Well, for one the show is European, with the grand prize of 1.3 million pounds. So here’s the deal for Game2: Winter, 30 contestants are selected and they must seek to stay alive in wilderness populated with wolves and bears. The whole thing is to take place in Siberia so essentially making it so they have to follow Russian Federation laws. The contestants get a lot of training prior to accepting the challenge with Russia’s elite former GRU Spetznaz operatives. They will only be given knives and will be expected to hunt and fish to eat.

Novosibirsk entrepreneur Yevgeny Pyatkovsky came up with the concept and this is what he had to say about it:

“Everything is allowed. Fighting, alcohol, murder, rape, smoking, anything. We will refuse any claim of participants even if they were to be killed or raped. There have been no reality TV projects before that stay on air 24/7. Probably all of you have watched the Lost TV series, but surviving in a tropical climate is quite different from trying to stay alive in the Siberian Taiga – boreal forest – at minus 40 degrees Celsius.”

The only silver lining there is for contestants is a panic button. They can press it when they are ready to give up.

The show is set to air June 2017. I don’t know whether anyone should watch this show because of how encouraging it is to do more like it and I definitely do not want the Trump presidency to begin any kind of Hunger Games sh*t because of something he saw on European TV.

Love Island

Like I said, German’s always have to turn it up a notch, towards the sexual side of things. You may remember a show on American TV channel VH1, Dating Naked. It’s not exactly new, but it is still a rather strange concept. Well, Germany isn’t having none of that normal dating naked bull sh*t us Americans are used to. They want the full nude experience! The show is called, Adam sucht Eva which translated, means ‘Adam searches for Eve’.

They pick 11 contestants, 7 of which are celebrities, and the concept is to bid on one another for their love. The island has been set up for ‘intimate togetherness’ in the hope it will spark romance between contestants. The show’s head runners said that the point is for the couples to be able to concentrate on getting to know one another ‘without luxury and dresses’.

So those three shows are what is making Europe reality TV great again, if you can call it great, but honestly it makes U.S. reality TV look so tame and mild. I hope we don’t borrow too many ideas from Germany television in the near future.
